A BRIEF HISTORY OF TABOR HILLS
Founded in 1894, we began on a 43-acre farm in Bensenville, Illinois.
Around the turn of the century, a picnic grove located on what was
then Crawford Avenue in Chicago was acquired in exchange for the
Bensenville property. During that time the facility that was then
constructed served both as an orphanage and a senior home. The orphanage
was discontinued in the early 1950’s.

The "Old Home"
Through the years, the Home has been guided by one
major principle: to care for its residents in the best possible
way. Various organizations and contributing members represented
in the Assembly of Delegates continue to recognize that the Bohemian
Home for the Aged is dedicated to promoting independence, ensuring
dignity and providing loving care so that our residents never need
to feel alone or unwanted by today’s society.
We are responsible to an Assembly of Delegates, whose members represent
a broad spectrum of organizations and lodges in the Chicago metropolitan
area. Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the Assembly
to oversee the operation of the Tabor Hills community, setting its
policies and procedures and managing its finances.
The Officers and Directors of the Home elected to relocate to a
larger campus. This was accomplished in 1994 when property in Naperville,
consisting of approximately 35 acres, was acquired. Plans were developed
for not only a healthcare facility but also a retirement community.
“Tabor Hills” was chosen as the name for this new community.
The present Tabor Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center has
211 beds and is a state-of-the-art facility. The Retirement Community
offers 104 one- and two- bedroom homes. In 2000 an additional 17-acres
was purchased to the west of the Naperville property increasing
the size of the community to 52 acres. This will be the new home
of our Supportive Living, an affordable Assisted Living Community
with 95 studio, one and two bedroom apartments. Construction has
begun on this site which is located at 1439 McDowell Road. We anticipate
its opening in late 2007.
